With the Dust app for Slack, members can call agents without leaving Slack: mention @Dust in a channel or thread, or send the app a direct message. The agent replies in a thread.

Set up the Dust app (admins)

A workspace admin enables the app once for the whole workspace:
  1. In Dust, go to Admin > Integrations.
  2. Turn on Slack Bot.
  3. Follow the Slack authorization flow to install the Dust app in your Slack workspace.
The Slack Bot is separate from the Slack connection, which syncs Slack channels into Dust as company data, and from the Slack tools, which let agents search and post in Slack.

Call an agent

Mention @Dust, followed by your request. To pick a specific agent, add + and its name right after the mention (~ works too):
  • @Dust What were the key decisions in this thread?
  • @Dust +SupportExpert How do I reset my password?
Good to know:
  • You can call one agent per message.
  • Without an agent name, the channel’s default agent answers if an admin has set one (see below). Otherwise, the @dust agent answers, or another default agent if @dust is turned off in your workspace.
  • In a direct message with the Dust app, you don’t need the @Dust mention. Write your request, optionally starting with + and the agent’s name.

Set up channels

  • Default agent for a channel: admins can link an agent to channels from the agent’s Slack Channel Settings, so @Dust mentions there go to that agent. The agent can also answer every message in the channel without a mention. See Slack Auto-Reply without @mention.
  • Slack workflows: run agents from Slack Workflow Builder, for example when someone adds an emoji reaction. See Slack workflows.
  • Auto-join (beta): automatically sync new public channels that match a pattern into the Slack connection. See Slack Auto-Join.
